If you're a content-creating, service-offering, Insta-growing solopreneur who's feeling totally burnt out by what “they” say you should be doing online, this one's for you!
In this blog post, I’m sharing the 10 things I intentionally quit to make content creation feel fun and easy again—without losing momentum or growth. These are mindset shifts and tactical pivots that allowed me to reclaim creativity, reduce overwhelm, and build a sustainable business I still love showing up for.
Let’s dive in.
🎧 First: A Real-Talk Moment from My Mic
Before we get into it: this episode was inspired by a guest spot I did on The Dirt on Flowers, a podcast by two flower-farming queens who hilariously call their audience “dirt bags.” (Genius.)
It made me realize—I’d love to come up with a name for our community, too! Maybe a play on The Content Coven? Content witches? Too much? Too little? DM me your ideas!
🌱 Why I Had to Quit Things (Even Ones I Taught!)
Let’s normalize this: Content creation can feel like a grind—especially when you're juggling a business, kids, and Instagram’s ever-changing rules.
At some point, I realized I was following so many rules and strategies that didn’t feel like me. I was forcing trends. Pushing too hard. Burning out. And ironically…my content was getting worse, not better.
So I gave myself permission to quit things that drained me—even if they were strategies I once taught.
Because content should support your business. Not suck the joy out of it.
🧹 10 Things I Quit to Make Content Feel Fun Again
1. ❌ I Quit Making Reels That Don’t Feel Aligned
You know those dreamy, aesthetic “B-roll reels” with voiceovers and slow-motion walks?
I hate making them.
Setting up a phone to record myself walking with my kids? Not happening. Interrupting my creative flow to capture every coffee pour or laptop session? Exhausting.
So I stopped. Instead, I double down on quick, punchy, educational reels—ones that feel like me. They’re easy to batch, they perform well, and they connect.
Do B-roll reels stress you out? Skip them. Your audience would rather hear your real voice than watch a moody montage.
2. ❌ I Quit Engagement That Drains Me
As my account grew, replying to every comment and DM started to drain me.
Enter: Nicole, my wonderful Instagram community manager. She responds to comments, flags important DMs, and keeps the convo flowing in my voice.
I didn’t quit engagement. I outsourced the part that wasn’t sustainable.
✅ Tip: Can’t afford a community manager? Block 20 minutes, 3x a day, to batch replies. Boundaries > burnout.
3. ❌ I Quit Answering DMs Like a Free Coaching Hotline
I love helping people. But I can’t coach for free in the DMs.
If someone asks me to review their content pillars or bio—and they’re not a past client or Content Coven member—I gently direct them to my paid community.
Because boundaries protect both my time and the value I provide in paid spaces.

4. ❌ I Quit Copying What Works for Others
Raise your hand if you’ve ever stalked another creator’s viral post and thought, “I should do that too.”
Yeah. Same.
But I’ve learned that copying dilutes your voice—and often flops anyway. I find better inspiration outside my niche, like a YouTube creator whose format inspired this exact episode.
✨ Pro tip: Mute creators in your niche for a week. Let your own voice come through.
5. ❌ I Quit Content Chaos Outside Work Hours
I work 9 to 3. That’s it. No replying to DMs while brushing my kid’s hair. No Instagram in bed. No laptop on the dock during vacation.
My phone stays out of the bedroom. I don’t even get Instagram notifications anymore.
🙌 Life-changing move: Turn off IG notifications and check DMs on your schedule. Not theirs.
6. ❌ I Quit Feeling Like I Have to Respond Instantly
Just because someone DMs you doesn’t mean you owe them an instant reply.
I check DMs strategically, not reactively. I don’t use automated responses (they feel impersonal to me), and I give myself grace.
You're running a business. Not a 24/7 help desk.
7. ❌ I Quit Obsessing Over Vanity Metrics
Ever spiral over a post flopping—even though it crushed the last time you shared it?
Been there. Still there, sometimes.
But I've learned that views, likes, and shares don’t reflect the impact of your content. The connection does.
And guess what? That quiet post might be the one that lands your next dream client!
8. ❌ I Quit Believing It All Falls Apart If I Take a Break
Yes, I’m Type A. Yes, I still struggle with this.
But now I intentionally take breaks—without guilt. One week off per quarter. No posting. No emails. No laptop sneaking into beach bags.
What happens? I come back recharged, creative, and clear.
💬 Let your audience know you’re taking time off. Or don’t. You get to choose.
9. ❌ I Quit the “All or Nothing” Posting Pressure
I used to think if I didn’t post six times a week, everything would collapse.
Now? I post when it feels right. I let high-performing posts breathe. I focus on quality over quantity.
I’m experimenting with 3–4 posts a week instead of 6. And spoiler: The world didn’t end.
🔁 Repurpose more. Post less. Breathe deeper.
10. ❌ I Quit Thinking Instagram Is the Only Way to Grow
This one hurts. But it’s the truth.
Instagram used to feel like the one-stop shop. Now? It often feels like I’m fighting the algorithm just to reach the audience I already have.
I still love IG. But I’m diversifying:

🔮 A Reminder If You’re Feeling Stuck…
Your content isn’t falling flat because you’re not working hard enough.
It’s probably because you’re carrying pressure that was never yours to begin with.
The strategies that work for you should feel light, not soul-sucking. You’re not behind. You’re evolving.
