✨ Intro: The Pressure to Be Everywhere Online Is Real
Ever get that twinge when someone says they tripled their sales from Threads? Or hear yet another Instagram strategist rave about how LinkedIn is the new goldmine? You’re not alone. The fear of missing out is intense in the world of content marketing—but before you leap onto a new platform, there’s something you need more than hype: a plan.
In this post, I’ll break down 3 essential questions to ask yourself before adding any new platform to your marketing mix. Because let’s face it—more isn’t always better. More can mean burnout, inconsistency, and scattered energy if your systems aren’t ready to support it.
Grab your notebook or open your Notes app—this one’s going to bring you clarity and confidence.
📌 TL;DR (For My Fellow Busy Creators)
If you're only skimming, here’s your checklist before adding a new platform:
✅ Do I have a solid content system already in place?
✅ Is my audience even there?
✅ Can I reuse or adapt the content I already have?
Still unsure? Keep reading for real-life examples, practical advice, and some tough love truths to keep your business moving forward—with ease, not overwhelm.
💬 Let's Normalize the Temptation to Try All the Things
Let’s be real: I’ve been there too. I’ve heard:
“75% of my sales came from Threads.”
“You’re crazy if you’re not on LinkedIn.”
“Video is king—why aren’t you on YouTube yet?”
And when you’re already trying to show up consistently on Instagram, maybe podcasting a little, maybe sending out the occasional newsletter… the idea of adding one more thing can be dizzying. Especially when what you’re already doing doesn’t feel quite dialed in yet.
So let’s stop chasing the next shiny platform like it’s going to fix everything. Because:
❌ A new platform won’t solve a broken system.
✅ A better system will multiply the results of what you're already doing.
🔍 Question One – Do You Have a Working System Right Now?
Before we talk about adding anything to your marketing, I want you to answer this honestly:
Is your current content process working—without draining the life out of you?
✨ Here's what I mean by “working”:
You're posting consistently on one platform (like Instagram)
You’re not reinventing the wheel every week
You have a rhythm or system that supports consistency
You’re seeing some level of engagement or growth
If your current system is held together by duct tape and vibes, STOP. Please do not add more to your plate.
Adding another platform when your foundation is shaky is like remodeling your kitchen when your roof is leaking.
“I had my batching rhythm down pat, my newsletter system solid, and THEN I added podcasting—three years into running my business.”
So before you jump, just really look at your current systems—with a very honest perspective.
If it’s shaky, draining you, or leaving you feeling burned out?
Pause. Fix your foundation first.
Your foundation has to be so solid—and then adding that next platform could actually be a smart, strategic move for you.
📊 Question Two – Is Your Audience Even There?
This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s one so many solopreneurs skip:
Is your ideal client even on that platform you’re thinking about?
Just because a platform is working for someone else does not mean it’s right for you.
“I polled my Instagram and newsletter audiences and asked:
‘Where are you hanging out—YouTube, Pinterest, or podcast?’
And the winner was podcasting. So that’s where I went.”
This was a data-driven, aligned decision based on:
What my audience wanted
What content format I enjoy (Have you seen my Instagram stories? I could talk all day!)
What I have capacity for
🧠 Thought prompt:
Where do you naturally like to consume content? That’s often a great clue about where you’ll feel most at home creating content too.
♻️ Question Three – Can You Reuse & Adapt the Content You Already Have?
Let’s talk about the holy grail of content creation: repurposing.
Everyone says it’s easy: “Just take your podcast and turn it into 7 pieces of content!”
Okay, cool. But are you actually set up to do that without burning out?
“I don’t want to record video with my podcast right now. That extra step makes me resentful—and I don’t want to resent this platform I love.”
Your repurposing process needs to feel good. It should save you time, not create new layers of complexity.

💌 Want to Finally Start Your Email List (Without Overwhelm)?
If you’re showing up on Instagram but don’t have an email list yet, I have to say it—that’s your next move. Not another platform. Not more reels. Not a shiny new strategy.
👉 Your email list is the most reliable, sustainable way to connect with your audience—off social.
If you’ve been putting it off because it feels overwhelming or you’re not sure what to send, you are not alone. That’s exactly why I created:

🧱 Real Talk: Fix the Foundation Before You Add the Floors
If your system for your current platforms feels shaky, your job is to solidify that first. That might look like:
Reworking your content batching strategy
Getting support with messaging that converts
Joining a community where you’re held accountable (👋 The Content Coven)
There’s nothing wrong with experimenting—but strategic expansion requires you to be honest about where you are right now.
“When I started this podcast, I was ready. My content system was dialed in. I hired support to get it off the ground. It was 100% the right time.”
🛑 But What If You're Tempted by the Platform of the Month?
Listen, I get it. You keep hearing:
“Threads is blowing up!”
“LinkedIn is where the real business is happening!”
“You’re missing out if you’re not on YouTube!”
But none of those matter if:
You’re inconsistent on Instagram
You don’t have a content system that works
Your messaging isn’t clear
You’re already stretched thin
Adding something new when your current strategy isn’t working is not growth—it’s distraction. It leads to content that feels rushed, misaligned, and energy-draining.
Before you add anything, check in with your foundation. Does it support the kind of business you want to build?
✅ Your Aligned Action Plan
If this post made you pause, reflect, or rethink your next platform move—good. That’s exactly the point.
Here’s your next step based on where you are right now:
