1. Redefine Success on Your Own Terms

For so long, I measured success by income and external validation. If my numbers were high, I felt accomplished. If they weren’t, I felt like a failure.

But success isn’t just about revenue. It’s about freedom. The freedom to:
✅ Work when I want, without feeling guilty
✅ Pick up my kids from school without stress
✅ Take breaks without anxiety over lost engagement

Take a moment to ask yourself: What does success truly look like for YOU? Write it down. Let it guide your decisions.

2. Treat Instagram Like Work—Not Entertainment

If your business relies on Instagram, it’s easy to justify endless scrolling. But passive consumption drains creativity and breeds comparison.

My rule? I get in, do what I need to do, and get out.
✔️ Post content
✔️ Engage with my audience
✔️ Check DMs
✔️ Log off

If you catch yourself scrolling aimlessly, set a timer or use an app to track your usage. Be intentional with your time.

3. Unfollow (or Mute) Competitors Who Trigger Comparison

Comparison is the thief of creativity. If seeing another entrepreneur’s engagement or sales makes you doubt yourself, it’s time to mute or unfollow.

I’ve done this, and it’s one of the most freeing things ever. I still support and admire my peers, but I protect my mental space first.

If someone’s content makes you feel less than, hit the mute button. You can always revisit later when you’re in a better headspace.

4. Keep Your Phone Out of the Bedroom

Doom-scrolling before bed or checking notifications first thing in the morning is a fast track to burnout. My solution? I don’t sleep with my phone in my room.

Instead, I use the Hatch Alarm Clock (affiliate link), which simulates a sunrise to wake me up naturally. No blue light, no distractions.

Pro tip: If you’re worried about emergencies, get a landline or leave your partner’s phone nearby. Your mental health is worth it.

5. Implement a No-Tech Rule Before and After School

In our house, we have a no-tech rule before and after school, Monday through Friday.

That means:
🚫 No TV
🚫 No iPads
🚫 No scrolling

Instead, we:
✔️ Play games
✔️ Go outside
✔️ Talk without distractions

This boundary helps me be more present with my kids and makes mornings and afternoons so much smoother.

6. Set Time Limits on Instagram

Instagram is designed to keep you hooked. That’s why I set a daily time limit of two hours using the Instagram app settings.

How to do this:
🔹 Go to Settings > Time Spent
🔹 Select Set Daily Time Limit
🔹 Choose a limit (start with 1-2 hours)

When I hit my limit, I get a warning. Some days, I bypass it (like during launches), but most days, it’s my cue to step away and focus on other things.

7. Set Clear Response Time Expectations

Feeling like you have to respond to every DM or client message immediately is a recipe for burnout.

In my membership and signature course, I set clear expectations upfront:
✔️ My working hours are 9 AM – 3 PM
✔️ I do NOT respond after 3 PM
✔️ There’s a 24-hour response time policy

This removes the anxiety of feeling like I need to be "on" 24/7. If you're constantly checking notifications, set boundaries with your clients, audience, and even yourself.

8. Teach Your Kids (or Loved Ones) to Call You Out

One of the best things I’ve done? I told my kids to say, “Mom, get off your phone.”

It’s a simple but powerful reminder to be present. If I’m aimlessly scrolling and they say it, I immediately put my phone down.

If you don’t have kids, ask your partner, a friend, or a roommate to call you out when they see you glued to your screen. Sometimes, we need that external accountability.

Final Thoughts: Pick One Boundary to Start With

I know it’s hard to implement all these boundaries at once. So, pick one to try this week:
✅ Set an Instagram time limit
✅ Move your phone out of your bedroom
✅ Mute a competitor who triggers comparison

👉 DM me on Instagram (@the.creative.bodega) and let me know which boundary you're going to implement this week! Let’s protect our energy and build a business that supports our life—not consumes it. 💛

You are NOT alone in this. Let’s protect our energy, set boundaries, and build businesses that support our lives—not consume them.
